dorothy 劉君冬
Dorothy is a singer-songwriter and a multi-disciplinary creative. Her music blends strong and dynamic beats, evidently influenced by her formal training as a drummer; a strong melodic hook with verses delivered in a texture that blurs lines between rapping and singing; and rich arrangement layered with synthesisers and processed vocals. Releasing both Cantonese and English songs, she writes introspectively about mental health issues, heartbreaks, and a rebellious urge to challenge the status quo in genres including Alternative R&B, Hyperpop, and Jersey Club.
Dorothy emerged in the music scene as a self-funded independent act in 2022. Prior to launching her music career, she has already established her influence within the Hong Kong music scene by directing, styling, and collaborating with prominent local musicians from Cantopop legends to rising talents in the underground indie band sound and hip-hop scenes.
Dorothy and her works have been featured in VOGUE Korea, ELLE, Vice Creator, RealTime Australia, and local media including VOGUE Hong Kong and Ming’s. Connecting with her Fine Art roots, she has participated in the Tropical Lab international artist residency and the BrisAsia Festival, and has exhibited internationally, notably at the Hong Kong Art Basel and Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts.
With a Masters in Fine Art and a Creative Direction career, Dorothy crafts her music videos and artist identity meticulously. She believes that her works should be experienced both musically and visually.
